Sandra Franklin, Director, Emory WHSC Library Retiring

Announcement made by Emory University Associate Vice Provost and University Librarian:

Please join me in celebrating Sandra Franklin who will be retiring from Emory at the end of May 2025.  Sandra has worked at Emory for just over 40 years. She served in the positions of Reference Librarian, Head of Services to the Public, Assistant Director, Associate Director, and acting director until her appointment as Library Director of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library in September 2002. Sandra has played a central role in the many changes within the WHSC Library as research, teaching and learning, and patient care have evolved. She served on numerous committees during her tenure.

Sandra’s contributions to health sciences librarianship are notable. She has been active in the Medical Library Association (MLA), the Consortium of Southern Biomedical Libraries (CONBLS), Friends of the National Library of Medicine Board of Directors, and the now defunct Atlanta Health Sciences Library Consortium, holding various offices and serving on multiple committees over the course of her career.  Sandra served as President of the the Georgia Health Sciences Library Association in 1994-1995, Southern Chapter of MLA in 2004-2005, and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) in 2019-2020. She was awarded the AAHSL Gerald J. Oppenheimer Cornerstone Award in November 2022 (individual) and November 2023 (task force).

While it is too soon to say goodbye, we can certainly congratulate Sandra on all she has accomplished and celebrate her outstanding career and contributions.
