Accomplishments by Emory Librarians

Kimberly R. Powell co-authored “A bibliometric services workshop for subject librarians,” published in Library Management, DOI: https://doi.org/10.1108/LM-03-2018-0014.

Hannah Rutledge published an article, “Diving into Data: Analyzing Information Requests to Understand Information Needs at a Pediatric Hospital,” in the Journal of Hospital Librarianship, DOI: 10.1080/15323269.2018.1509190.

Amy Allison completed a yearlong leadership program sponsored by the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries and the National Library of Medicine. In October she participated in a three day capstone program in Washington, D.C., and received a certificate of completion presented by Patricia Brennan, RN, PhD, Director of the National Library of Medicine.

Julie K. Gaines Selected as Recipient of the 2018 Michael E. DeBakey Library Services Outreach Award

Congratulations to GHSLA member Julie Gaines who has been selected as the recipient of the Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM)’s 2018 Michael E. DeBakey Library Services Outreach Award. Julie, MLIS, AHIP, is the Associate Professor and Head of the Medical Partnership Library at Augusta University and the University of Georgia. Julie will be recognized at the FNLM Gala on September 25th at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC.

Christine Willis Named MLA News Editor

GHSLA Immediate Past President Christine Willis, AHIP, has been named the new editor of the MLA News, the bimonthly MLA member publication. Willis will serve a three-year term beginning August 1, 2018. She replaces Jodi Philbrick, AHIP, who served as interim editor following the departure of Cheryl Rowan in October 2017.

“I am very excited for this opportunity and am looking forward to leading the MLA News as it continues to foster communication among members and other important stakeholders,” said Willis.

The MLA News is a unique publication and offers updates on news and information for health information professionals. MLA thanks Jodi Philbrick for her support and contributions as interim editor to the MLA News as we extend a warm welcome to Christine Willis and look forward to her hard work and service in making the MLA News a success under her leadership.

Looking for Future MLA Leaders – Submit Your Suggestions

The MLA Nominating Committee is identifying potential candidates for the 2019 election. If you would like to nominate someone as a potential candidate for president or board member, or if you would like to be considered yourself, please complete the nominating form at http://tinyurl.com/y97hrnkc. Be sure to provide as much information as possible outlining why the recommended person would be an outstanding candidate.

The Committee will consider significant professional achievements, leadership experience, involvement in the association and vision for its future, as well as balance among our association’s geographic regions and from the various communities that represent the diversity of our membership.

The process for selecting candidates and electing the MLA President-Elect and members of the MLA Board is described in Article V of our association bylaws, accessible from www.mlanet.org, (click on About MLA, and then Organization from the menu). The slate will include at least two candidates for President-elect, and at least four candidates for the two open MLA Board member positions.

The Committee will begin review of nominations on July 20, 2018, although nominations will be accepted until the slate is finalized.
