Emory Hosts “Medical Treasures”

Vesalius_Fabrica_p163Atlanta’s Emory University is hosting an exhibit of material from the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library’s historical collection of artifacts and medical books, including a print of Andreas Vesalius’s “de humani corporis fabrica”.

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013.  The exhibit will be on display through October 2013.

Job Posting: Associate Director, Library Applications and Knowledge Systems, University of Maryland

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs/Executive Director Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL), this newly created faculty position will provide leadership for the library’s applications, knowledge systems, and new and emerging technologies, integrating the resources, services and programs of the HS/HSL.  Working in a highly collaborative library and campus environment, the Associate Director for Library Applications and Knowledge Systems will manage 6.5 staff consisting of an internal library network administrator, web developers, support staff, and an instructional technology/design team.  This is a full-time, non-tenure track position at a rank of Librarian II or III.  SALARY RANGE:  $55,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience.

nnlm_seaMemorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA is hosting two continuing education courses from the National Library of Medicine Training Center.

PubMed for Trainers” is offered in 3 online classes beginning October 31 and ending in person on November 14, 2013.

This free in-depth course will provide current or future PubMed® trainers valuable techniques to efficiently and effectively search PubMed®.  PubMed® for Trainers is eligible for 15 hours of MLA CE credit upon completion of all online and in-person sessions.

Online Session 1: October 31, 10 am – noon
Online Session 2: November 4, 10 am – noon
Online Session 3: November 7, 10 am – noon
In-person Session 4:  November 14, 2013, 9 am – 4:30 pm ET

Toxnet and Beyond” will be offered on November 15, 2013.

TOXNET® and Beyond is a free six-hour, hands-on course to help information specialists quickly find authoritative resources on environmental health and toxicology as well as related health information.
